The Comments tab on a project is where your team talks about the job. Ask a question, give an update from the site, or flag something for the office, and everyone working the project sees it in one place. People you mention get notified.
If you don’t see a Comments tab on the project, comments aren’t turned on for your workspace.

Who can do what

  • Read, post, reply, and react: anyone who can open the project. That’s Admin, Ops Manager, Sales Admin, Sales Member, Crew Leader, and Client Coordinator. You also need to belong to the project’s branch.
  • Edit: only your own comments. Nobody can edit a comment someone else wrote, and that includes Admins.
  • Delete: your own comments. Admins can also delete anyone’s comment.
The Edit and Delete options only show on comments you’re allowed to change, so you won’t see them on everyone’s comments.

Post a comment

1

Open the Comments tab

Open the project and click Comments in its tabs. If nobody has commented yet, you see No comments yet. Be the first to comment.
2

Click the comment box

Click Write a comment or mention someone with @… at the top of the tab to open the editor.
3

Write your comment

Type your message. Use the toolbar above the text to add bold, italics, a bulleted list, a numbered list, or a heading in one of three sizes.
4

Send it

Click the send button (the paper-plane icon), or press Cmd/Ctrl + Enter. To close the editor without posting, click the x button.
Comments your teammates post show up on the tab while you have it open, so you don’t need to refresh.

Mention a teammate

1

Type @

In the editor, type @. A short list of people appears.
2

Pick the person

Keep typing their name to narrow the list, then click them. Their name shows as a highlighted tag in your comment.
3

Send the comment

When you post, everyone you mentioned gets a notification with a preview of your comment and a View Comment button that opens the project’s comments.
What triggers a notification:
  • A mention. Each person you mention is notified. Mentioning yourself doesn’t send anything.
  • Adding a mention in an edit. Only the people you newly add are notified. People who were already mentioned aren’t notified again.
  • A reply. When someone replies to your comment, you’re notified. You aren’t notified about your own replies.
The list only shows people in the branch you’re working in. How each person receives these alerts (email, text, or in-app) follows your branch’s notification settings. Project mentions and replies use the Feed post mention and Feed post reply rows in the Comments group. See Notification preferences.

Attach photos and videos

1

Click the image button

In the editor, click the Attach media button (the image icon) and choose photos or videos from your device.
2

Wait for the uploads

Each file shows a thumbnail while it uploads. You can remove one before sending. If an upload fails, retry it or remove it. You can’t send the comment while a file is still uploading or has failed.
3

Send

Send the comment as usual. You can post photos or videos on their own, without typing anything.
You can attach up to 8 photos and videos to each comment. At the limit, the image button turns off. If you pick more files than you have room for, the extras are skipped and you see Attachment limit reached.
GIFs aren’t available in project comments. You can only add a GIF when commenting on a Win Feed post. See Add a GIF or photo.

Reply in a thread

Every comment has its own reply box, Write a comment…, right below it. Type your reply there and send it the same way you’d send a comment. Replies can include formatting, mentions, and attachments too. Replies are grouped under the comment they answer. The speech-bubble count under a comment shows how many replies it has. Click it to expand or collapse the thread. Replies go one level deep, so you reply to the original comment, not to another reply.

React to a comment

Click the Like button (thumbs-up) under a comment, or click Add reaction to choose a different emoji. Reactions work the same way on projects as they do on the Win Feed. See React with an emoji.

Edit a comment

1

Open the menu

Click the three-dots menu next to your comment and choose Edit.
2

Make your changes

Change the text, formatting, mentions, or attachments. Then send it again.
An edited comment shows (edited) next to your name, so the team can tell it changed after it was posted.

Delete a comment

1

Open the menu

Click the three-dots menu next to the comment and choose Delete.
2

Confirm

In the Delete comment window, click Delete. Click Cancel to keep the comment.
Deleting a comment can’t be undone. If the comment already has replies, the replies stay put and the comment itself is replaced with [This comment was deleted].

Ask Meni in a thread

If Meni is turned on for your workspace, you can mention Meni in a project comment to ask it a question. It answers in the same thread. See Ask Meni in a thread for how it works and who can delete its answers.
