# Non schedulable statuses

> Which job statuses can't be scheduled, why Closed Job and Cancelled jobs never appear in the Schedule a Job picker, and how this differs from the Requires Crew Lead and lead-level scheduling rules.

This reference explains which job statuses can be scheduled, which two cannot, and why the blocked jobs simply don't appear in the **Schedule a Job** picker.

## The two non-schedulable statuses

A job can be scheduled — meaning it shows up in the **Schedule a Job** picker — in **every** status **except** these two:

| Status | Schedulable? |

| **Closed Job** | No — blocked |
| **Cancelled** | No — blocked |

Every other job status is schedulable.

### The full set of job statuses

For context, the complete list of job statuses is below. Every one of these **except Closed Job and Cancelled** can be scheduled:

* **Requires Crew Lead**
* **Plans In Progress**
* **Pending Review**
* **Requires Scheduling**
* **Pre-Production**
* **In Production**
* **Production Complete**
* **Pending Payment**
* **Closed Job** — not schedulable
* **Cancelled** — not schedulable

## Why these two are blocked

A **Closed Job** is a completed, finalized job, and a **Cancelled** job will not be worked. Neither should have new shifts scheduled against it, so both are filtered out of the **Schedule a Job** picker.

There is **no error message or warning** for this. Closed and cancelled jobs simply **never appear** in the job dropdown — there's nothing to select, so there's no "you can't schedule this" message to dismiss. The job is absent, not present-but-disabled.

## How the rule behaves

### It blocks selection in the Schedule a Job flow

The exclusion applies everywhere a job is chosen in the **Schedule a Job** flow:

* **The job dropdown.** Closed and cancelled jobs are left out of the list you scroll through and search.
* **The auto-select shortcut.** When you pick a client who has exactly one schedulable job, that job is auto-selected for you. A client whose only job is closed or cancelled will **not** trigger this auto-selection — there's no schedulable job to pick.

### Already-scheduled shifts are kept

If a job already has shifts and then becomes **Closed Job** or **Cancelled**, its existing shifts stay in place. This rule only controls **new** selection in the picker — it does not retroactively remove shifts that were already scheduled.

## Related but distinct rules

### Requires Crew Lead is still schedulable

**Requires Crew Lead** is **not** one of the non-schedulable statuses — a job in this status **can** still be picked in the **Schedule a Job** flow. It does, however, have a separate effect: when a job is moved into **Requires Crew Lead**, the job's own scheduled date is cleared and its crew assignment is cleaned up. That affects the job's scheduled date, not whether the job can be picked for scheduling.

Don't conflate the two: **Requires Crew Lead** remains selectable; only **Closed Job** and **Cancelled** are blocked.

### Lead-level scheduling readiness is a different thing

The Leads area has its own check for whether a lead is ready to be scheduled, based on that lead's scheduling requirements. That applies to **leads**, not to **job statuses**, and is unrelated to the non-schedulable-job-status rule on this page. ## Quick reference

* **Blocked from scheduling:** Closed Job and Cancelled — they never appear in the **Schedule a Job** picker.
* **Schedulable:** every other job status, including Requires Crew Lead.
* **No error message:** blocked jobs are simply absent from the dropdown.
* **Existing shifts are kept** if a job later becomes Closed Job or Cancelled.
* **Requires Crew Lead** clears the job's scheduled date but stays schedulable — a separate rule.
