# Personalize the Note and Price Display

> Add a personal note to the customer, spell out project allowances, and choose whether the proposal shows unit prices, total prices, both, or neither.

Once you've generated a proposal, two settings make it feel tailored to the customer: a personal **Notes to Client** message, and how much pricing detail the proposal shows. Both live right on the **Proposal Preview**.

## Add a note to the client

The **Notes to Client** section is a short, personal message that appears near the top of the proposal — a great place to thank the customer, recap the visit, or highlight what makes your bid the right choice.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the Notes to Client section">
    On the Proposal Preview, look for **Notes to Client**, just under the To / From block.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start writing">
    Click **Add Notes** (or **Edit** if there's already a note). A text editor opens with the prompt *"Type your message here..."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="Format it nicely">
    The editor supports light formatting — you can make text **bold** or *italic*, add bullet lists, headings, and links — so your message reads cleanly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. Your note appears in the proposal exactly as the customer will see it. To discard your changes instead, click **Cancel**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Keep it short and personal. A couple of warm, specific sentences ("Thanks for having us out Tuesday — here's everything we discussed for the attic...") does more than a long block of text.
</Tip>

<Note>
  The note is optional. If you leave it empty, the section simply doesn't appear on the customer's proposal.
</Note>

## Add project allowances

The **Project Allowances** section is a place to spell out custom terms, allowances, or notes for the work — for example, a materials allowance the customer can spend up to, or a condition attached to part of the job. It sits just above the **Service Breakdown**, below any photos and videos.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the Project Allowances section">
    On the Proposal Preview, scroll to **Project Allowances**, just above the Service Breakdown.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start writing">
    Click **Add Notes** (or **Edit** if there's already something there). A text editor opens with the prompt *"Type your message here..."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="Format it">
    Like the note to the client, the editor supports light formatting — **bold**, *italic*, bullet lists, headings, and links.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. Your allowances appear in the proposal exactly as the customer will see them. To discard your changes instead, click **Cancel**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Project allowances are optional. If you leave the section empty, it doesn't appear on the customer's proposal. Once the customer has signed, the section becomes read-only.
</Note>

## Choose how prices are displayed

By default, a proposal shows the customer the overall **Price Summary** (subtotal, taxes, total, and deposit) but keeps the per-item pricing hidden. You decide whether to reveal the line-by-line prices in the **Service Breakdown** using the **Client View Settings** toggles.

In the **Service Breakdown** section header you'll see **Client View Settings:** with two switches:

* **Unit Price** — shows the price of a single unit of each item (for example, the price per square foot).
* **Total Price** — shows the line total for each item (unit price × quantity).

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Both off (the default)">
    The customer sees each service and its quantity, but no per-item prices — only the overall Price Summary at the bottom. This keeps the focus on the total investment rather than the math behind it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Total Price on">
    The customer sees a price next to each line item. Good when you want full transparency on what each service costs.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Unit Price on">
    The customer sees the per-unit rate for each item. Useful when the rate itself is the selling point.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Both on">
    The customer sees both the per-unit rate and the line total for every item — the most detailed view.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

<Tip>
  As you flip the switches, the breakdown updates instantly so you can preview exactly what the customer will see. Toggle them until the proposal looks the way you want, then save.
</Tip>

## Make sure your choices stick

Your price-display choices are saved when you **Save as Draft**, when you **Send Proposal**, or when you **Present to Client** — so the version the customer opens always matches the preview in front of you. If you've changed the toggles, save or send before you walk away.
