# Qualify a Lead

> Get a lead ready to work — assign the branch, client coordinator, status, and tags so the right people pick it up and it moves through your pipeline.

Qualifying a lead means getting it ready for the team to act on: it lands in the right **branch**, has a **coordinator** owning it, sits at the right **status**, and carries the **tags** that help everyone understand it at a glance. You do all of this from the lead's summary page.

## Open the lead

Go to **Leads** and click the lead you want. On the right side of the summary you'll find the **Details** panel, where most qualifying happens.

## Assign a branch

In the **Details** panel, use the **Branch** dropdown to assign the lead to the branch that should handle it. Pick a branch from the list, or choose **Unassigned** to leave it open. You'll see a **Branch updated** confirmation.

<Note>
  Assigning a branch is an important step — a lead needs a branch before you can schedule a site visit for it.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Once a site visit (lead activity) is on the calendar, the branch locks so it can't be accidentally changed. An info icon next to **Branch** explains this. To change the branch after that, remove the scheduled activity first.
</Tip>

## Assign a client coordinator

After the lead has a branch, a **Client Coordinator** dropdown appears in the same panel. Pick the coordinator who owns the lead — start typing to search by name. You can clear the selection at any time to leave it unassigned.

<Note>
  Only people set up as Client Coordinators appear in this list.
</Note>

## Set the status

Every lead has a **status** that shows where it sits in your pipeline. You can change it two ways:

* From the **lead summary**, use the status dropdown next to the lead's name at the top.
* From the **Leads list**, use the status dropdown right on the lead's row — no need to open it.

Your organization defines its own set of lead statuses, so move the lead along as it progresses.

## Add tags

Tags are flexible labels you can apply to a lead — think things like a service type, a priority, or a campaign. In the **Details** panel, use the **Tags** field to search and add as many as you like. Tags save automatically as you add or remove them, and they double as a filter on the main Leads list.

<Tip>
  Lean on tags to organize your pipeline your way. Tag a batch of leads, then filter the Leads list by that tag to work them as a group.
</Tip>

## A note on salesperson

The salesperson tied to a referral-based lead is captured on the lead itself, in the **Lead source** area of the create/edit form. See [Set the lead source, confidence, and referral](/guides/leads/source-confidence-referral) for how to record it. When you later schedule a site visit, that's where you choose which team member is **assigned** to go.
