# Add & Edit Properties

> Keep a client's property accurate — address, property type, parking, access notes, hazards, pets, and special instructions — so every crew arrives prepared.

A **property** is the place where the work happens. Each one belongs to a client and carries the details a crew needs before they show up: where it is, what kind of building it is, how to park, and anything unusual to watch for. Getting these right means fewer surprises on the day of the job.

<Note>
  Property details live alongside the job. You'll find and edit them on a client's project, under the **Property Details** card.
</Note>

## Where property details live

Open a client from the **Clients** page, then open one of their projects. On the project you'll see two cards side by side:

* **Property Details** — the address and the basics of the building.
* **Contact Details** — the people tied to the job (covered in [Manage contacts](/guides/clients/contacts)).

The **Property Details** card shows the **Address**, **Property Type**, and **Parking** at a glance. When the address can be mapped, you'll also see a quick distance link and a tap-to-open map.

## Edit the address and basics

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the editor">
    On the **Property Details** card, click the **edit** (pencil) button. The **Property Details** window opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the address">
    Start typing in the **Address** field and choose the match from the suggestions. Picking a suggestion fills in the street address, city, state, and postal code for you. If there's an apartment, suite, or unit number, add it in the optional **Address line 2** field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the property type">
    Use the **Property type** menu to pick what kind of building it is: **Single Family Home**, **Residential 2-4 Units**, **Residential 5+ Units**, or **Commercial**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose parking">
    Use the **Parking** menu to note what's available: **Driveway**, **Street**, **Alleyway**, **Unspecified / Difficulty Parking**, or **Other**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save Changes**. To exit without saving, click **Cancel**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If the property already has an estimate, the address fields — including **Address line 2** — are locked, and you'll see a note explaining why. To change a locked address, delete the estimate(s) tied to it first, then edit the address.
</Note>

## Access, hazards, pets, and special instructions

The deeper property details — the ones that help a crew plan the visit — are captured when you build an estimate, on the inspection step of the Calculator. These include:

* **How many stories the property has.**
* **Whether the property is occupied** — Yes, No, or Partial Occupation.
* **Estimated parking distance from the front door** — from a short walk up to “Unknown / Prepare for the worst.”
* **Pets the crew should be aware of.**
* **Known obstacles or hazards** — for example, low ceilings, tight access, or fragile items.
* **Special instructions for parking or accessing the property** — for example, a gate code or lockbox.

<Tip>
  Fill these in while the visit is fresh in your mind. The more accurate the access notes, hazards, and pet warnings, the smoother the crew's arrival — and the fewer callbacks for a locked gate or an unexpected dog.
